I have been working on level 1, making gameplay elements works correctly.
Also balancing the game, and the actual design of the level. Some changes that will happen is that there will be only 2 types of magic, instead of 4: At first there was a plan, and even there is the code and art implementation of all 4. But 2 magic attack types will be removed: Acid rain, and repeal force. The reason is there is no real need for the repeal force magic attack (that throws enemies around you but don't kill them, and acid attack is redundant, as the other Kanji magic attack is similar). Special weapons are all still here (mine, grenade, rocket and attack drone). They are not similar so each has a purpose, and will stay. They are already implemented but need more testing. One great news is that a fantastic new music track is close to be finished, it sounds really really great, maybe even the best track so far. Shadow Gangs soundtrack, will be second to none, that's something guaranteed! All music have real depth to them. This next one is just amazing. I'll post it again even if I said before that I will not post anymore music. Shadow Gangs music really give me a big motivation boost to complete the game in the best state possible. Things are looking good, next thing I will do next week is more polish for level 1, more gameplay work and balance, and add Collin at the end of the level 1. Had no time to post a progress update for 2 weeks, because I was spending all the time designing the first level :)
The first level is very important in that it will be the first to allow for the testing of the game mechanics, testing the gameplay, fixing bugs and adding features that will be later useful for all the coming levels. Some things that became apparent while designing the level is that Shadow Gangs is an action game, pure action. I was thinking to add a reflection, more exploration side to it, but that will not work. I added some secrets etc..., and I actually removed around 40% of the initial level design because the level become too big, and too big is not good, as it proved to be boring. All I can say for now is that it looks gorgeous, plays really great. Collin will visit Dan at the end of each level (1, 2 and 3 bridge), and at the end of the bridge, he'll come on board of a big 2 helices heliopter, and the fight with Collin will be on top of the helicopter, with a beautiful libery statue in the background! Bridge art is finished, and Collin level is getting finished now, and should be art finished before the end of next week. Stay tuned! |
